B-2 Visitor for Pleasure

B-2 classification is for Visitors for Pleasure entering the U.S. temporarily to engage in tourist activities or social visits. Other permissible activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Medical treatment
• Participation in conferences, conventions, etc. of social or fraternal organizations
• Short courses of study incidental to tourist or social activities
• Amateur entertainers or athletes in non-profit performances or competitions without compensation (payment of expenses permissible)

A Visitor for Pleasure must establish the following:

• Intent to enter the U.S. for a limited temporary period
• Sufficient financial resources to carry out the purpose of the visit
• Foreign residence abroad and substantial ties to home country

Period of Stay

Initial period of stay may be granted from 1-6 months depending on the nature of the trip. Extensions may be granted for up to 6 months allowing for a maximum stay of 1 year.
